Behaviors of Social Media

Everyone has their own opinions about social media and it's effect on our society as we know it. Judgements are made about how social media can isolate people, when the truth is actually the opposite. While some of us are already tired "tweeting" and having people follow your status updates on Facebook, social media is actually still catching on. Jacqui Cheng from Ars Technica posted an article about the realities of behavior when affected by social media.

Some examples:

The majority of Twitter users are still just voyeurs.- Most people use their Twitter accounts to follow people, not to tweet themselves.

Mobile social networking is for the ladies. - More women than men use mobile devices to stay up to date with their statuses. Also, the age group that uses social media the most are 35-54, not kids as commonly thought.

Social media isn't replacing real life just yet - face to face communication is still preferred over online communication.
